SERVICES
As humans, our bodies and brains have an innate ability to heal themselves and be restored to ease and balance. I work collaboratively and compassionately, using gentle, accelerated tools such as EMDR, Somatic Therapy and mindfulness.
These cutting edge therapies are grounded in neuroscience and work to attune a person to these natural abilities, treating trauma and accumulated life stress. Fortunately, because we are instinctual beings with the ability to feel, respond, and reflect, we possess the innate potential to heal even the most debilitating traumatic injuries.
EMDR
Eye movement desensitization reprocessing is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from past experiences which have caused emotional distress. Leading up to an EMDR session, grounding and calming tools will be taught and practiced to utilize during moments of possible distress. During an EMDR session, a disturbing memory will be recalled, and paired with a negative internalized belief associated with the painful experience. Focusing on the memory and belief, while engaging in Bi-lateral stimulation (eye-movements), allows for the emotional charge of the memory to be desensitized, as well as re-processed. EMDR can quickly "re-wire" the brain by tapping into its natural ability to create new, more positive neural pathways and leave painful memories in the past.
INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS
IFS is a type of therapy that aims to heal the wounded and protective parts of self. From the IFS perspective, we each have multiple parts inside, and underlying them is a person’s core or true Self. Like members of a family, a person’s inner parts can take on extreme roles. This method is about finding new ways to relate to these various parts so as to find a deeper sense of wholeness and integration.
TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA THERAPY
Trauma-Informed yoga therapy includes using yoga postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and guided imagery to increase one’s connection to their own body as well as promote feelings of safety within the body. The yoga therapy exercises allow for the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system: the part of the body that is responsible for deep rest and relaxation. This activation helps to mitigate the effects of an overactive fight or flight stress response in the body.
SOMATIC THERAPY
This method focuses on helping to heal and regulate the nervous system. From a somatic perspective, it’s become evident that trauma is not held in “the event” but rather in the nervous system, which holds the key to it’s unwinding.
Given this, Somatic therapy focuses on the physiological responses that occur when someone experiences or remembers an overwhelming or traumatic event, in his or her body. This slowing down and noticing body sensations allows the nervous system to come back into balance. Somatic therapy also facilitates the release of habitual tension held in the body, as well as stored emotional pain and trauma.
